Dah dah dahh.

Few artists are man/woman enough to openly answer any and all questions thrown at them. Are you? Prove it. Copy/Paste this as a new journal entry and answer every question you get.

The rules are simple:

-You must answer every question you get no matter what it's about and you must do so honestly.

-There are no questions that can not be asked as long as they are within the rules of DA. They can be personal, about oc's, and every thing in between.

Think of it as a truth or dare of sorts, only without the dare option.

Sept 20-21                    Factors Affecting Reaction Rate               Sarah K., Emma C.

Hypothesis

Concentration of reactants, surface area of reactants, and temperature of reactants all affect the rate of reaction.

Apparatus & Materials

Refer to manual.

Procedures

Part 1

0.5 M - Immediate bubbles. Magnesium strip sunk to the bottom of the test tube at approximately 10 seconds. Reactants continued to bubble furiously. Magnesium strip returned to top of test tube and bubbling continued until reaction was complete.

1 M - Assumed that the acid was incorrectly mixed. Did not react.

3 M - Reactants promptly began smoking a minimal amount, as well as bubbling. Magnesium strip remained at the top of the test tube for the duration of the reaction. Reactants produced a noise not unlike a newly opened can of pop during the reaction.

6 M - Reactants smoked, produced noises similar to those mentioned in 3 M. Let off an unpleasant scent nearby the test tube that one could smell when they got close enough, or anywhere directly above the opening of the test tube. Bubbled.

Part 2

Beaker A - Reactants bubbled and let off smoke.

Beaker B - Reactants bubbled and let off smoke. Produced a fizzing noise.

Beaker C - Reactants bubbled and let off smoke. Produced a fizzing noise.

Part 3

A - Reactants bubbled furiously, produced some noise, smoked.

B - Reactants bubbled minimally, produced minimal noise.

C - Reactants fizzed immediately, bubbled.

D - Reactants hissed minimally, bubbled immediately. Magnesium strip dropped to bottom of test tube at 15 seconds. Returned to the surface at approximately 80 seconds.

Data & Observations

See attached table.

Results

In part 1, the higher the molarity became, the faster and more intense the reaction became. In part 2, the form of the magnesium was observed to directly affect the rate of the reaction. In part 3, the temperature of the acid clearly played a role in the rate.

Conclusion

Molarity and concentration of the acid, as well as the form of the magnesium, was observed to directly affect the speed and intensity of the reaction. Temperature was observed to actively play a role in the rate, though oddly it did not seem to hold a solid, discernable connection in this singular, particular experiment. Perhaps a repetition of the experiment would yield different results.

Sources of Error

- Mixed acids (1 M and 3 M) were of estimated molarity.
- Each magnesium strip was not necessarily sanded before used in the reaction.
- In part 2, beaker A, several slivers of magnesium did not reach the acid for the initial reaction.

I'll be transitioning there throughout the next few months. It depends when I get off my ass and move my watchlist over.

ccla.org/2010/06/29/g20-incide…

Peaceful protestors are still protestors and the police aren't going to stop and check which protestor is which when there are people threatening the people they're there to protect, and threatening the peace we have. We're not perfect. Guess what? Nobody is.

Do you realize how many policemen were attacked? Do you realize how many people could have been injured or even killed if the police cars that were set on fire had exploded? Or if they just left them there and let people shove their faces and arms and cameras at them?

Do you realize that the police were just doing their job? Do you understand that they're people too, and get frustrated to no end when they're just trying to do that job and people harass THEM for it?

Sure, they didn't do things perfectly. But don't act like they were the big bads and nothing horrible happened to them. They didn't start their day saying "You know what? I'm going to shoot a protestor today!" They just tried to arrest people that, at that moment, seemed dangerous for whatever reason. Because you know what? Being a policeman is a fucking hard job. And peaceful protestors getting that close to the action eventually look exactly the same as mobs to them - a huge group of people against them.

www.nationalpost.com/multimedi…

Just...random pictures. A lot of arrests, holy crap. They're kicking people going through the riot lines. No kidding - they don't care who it is, if you're going through the riot line they're going to fuck you up. People smashing windows and looting - one of the things they're trying to stop. People setting their cars on fire. They're just trying to protect you guys, you know. They're trying to protect the people at G20, sure. But they're also trying to protect you guys from each other, because not everybody means well, and the violent people don't give a shit who they hurt.

I could show you a different article, like news.nationalpost.com/2010/06/… , but I doubt you'd give a fuck that it notes more harassment towards the police and arrests than anything.

It would have been so much easier for everyone if the protests hadn't HAD to be DURING the conferences. Or so close to them. All peaceful protests have at least one jackass who's going to cause shit. Peaceful protesting crowds just gave the violent protestors a place to hide.
